The day to commemorate the Birth, Enlightenment and Parinibbana of the Buddha. Buddhist all over the world have been celebrating a special event this year, signifying 2600 years since Lord Buddha attained Supreme Enlightenment- an opportunity for devotees to reiterate their determination to lead noble lives, to develop their minds, to practice loving kindness, bring peace and harmony to humanity.
Venerable Piyatissa, the Chief incumbent of the Manchester Buddhist Vihara,
inaugurated the celebrations by administering Eight Precepts(Ata sil) and Admonition (Anusasana). Young and old devotees observed sil, clad in white attire. The Dhamma discussions in both Sinhala and English were intellectually stimulating and spiritually uplifting.
The dana was well organised by the coordinators of the society. The Hall was very well decorated overnight, by a group of ardent devotees, with Buddhist flags, Wesak lanterns and a miniature Wesak pandal, reminiscent of Wesak celebrations in Sri Lanka. This was indeed a work of art.
